Crowns & Bridges
Crowns & Bridges in Charlotte NC
Do you have decaying or fractured teeth? Maybe you have a missing tooth. It’s probably time you get examined for a crown or bridge. What are crowns and bridges? Let’s start with the dental crown.
Crowns, also known as caps, are porcelain and/or partial metal casts of teeth that are placed over fractured or significantly decayed teeth to protect the tooth from breaking down further.
Bridges are used to replace missing teeth. They are made with synthetic materials that are secured in the mouth with crowns applied to the teeth adjacent to the tooth which is missing. Bridges help prevent the teeth surrounding the missing tooth from drifting out of position and prevent gum disease, tooth decay, or the loss of other teeth.
If those benefits don’t convince you to come in for an examination, then maybe these will:
- Crowns will relieve discomfort: Most decayed or fractured teeth become sensitive to temperature or pressure, making it hard to enjoy your favorite food. Using teeth caps will protect your teeth from sensitivity and decay.
- Crown procedures are simple: Our expert dentist will reshape your teeth, which is minimally invasive and may only cause slight discomfort. We’ll make a cast of your teeth to make a custom-fitted crown. After it’s made, it’s cemented into place.
- Crowns and Bridges will enhance your smile: Our confidence is shown in our smile, but some people could be self-conscious about showing their cracked or decayed teeth. Teeth caps and bridges will help you reclaim your smile!
- Bridges will keep your jawline healthy: A missing tooth may not seem like a big deal, but it can cause the jaw bone to deteriorate. Bridge dental work will stimulate the area keeping your jaw and smile healthy.

What Are The Average Costs of a Crown or Bridge Procedure?
You might wonder, “How much do the tooth crown procedure and the dental bridge procedure cost?” It’s an important question. But there’s no clear answer. Everyone’s teeth are different, so the pricing will vary. Whatever price we estimate, the work will be well worth it. We can’t give you an estimate over the phone, but if you have any questions about pricing or insurance, please get in touch with us.
How Often Do Crowns and Bridges Need to be Replaced?
The average lifespan for tooth caps and bridges is ten years. They’re made to last long, but like anything else, wear and tear can accumulate, leading to the need for dental bridge procedure restoration.
How are Caps and Crowns Different?
You might need clarification about dental caps vs dental crowns. They mean the same thing. People who use the word dental caps are typically older; the opposite is true about crowns. You can use them interchangeably.
What is the Difference Between a Dental Bridge and Dentures?
If you’re looking into dental bridges, you might also be interested in dentures. What’s the difference? Dental bridges fix to a tooth adjacent to the missing one. A partial denture snaps into place and is removable.
Using either will work, but both have their advantages and disadvantages. We’d recommend you come into our office for an examination to see what would work best for you!
Do I Need a Dental Implant or a Dental Crown?
While dental implants use crowns, they’re not the same as them. During a dental implant procedure, our dentist places a surgical implant into the bone region, and then a cap is placed on top of it. Typically you would use a dental implant for a missing tooth, as a dental crown is used on a decayed or broken tooth.
Should I Get a Dental Bridge or a Dental Implant?
Choosing between a dental bridge and a dental implant comes to cost and operation comfort level. For a dental bridge, our dentist will grind down your teeth adjacent to the missing one, and a bridge will be placed over the two teeth, with the third middle piece being the bridge that closes the gap.
A dental implant is fixed into your upper or lower jaw bone region, and then a crown is placed on top of it. You can read more about our Charlotte dental implant work here. The implant will keep your gum and jawbone region healthy. If you’re in between the two, please give us a call. We’d be happy to offer our expert opinion.
